Description

HTML to PDF tools connect the open web to the publishing supply chain, supporting original writing, research and journalism with revenue. In this workshop, you'll learn to use open source tools which will help you produce good-looking print and screen PDFs from HTML in complex human languages including Arabic, Chinese and Vietnamese. The workshop will be in English, and of course you'll be able to use these skills for making PDF in European languages too.

Agenda

Hands on workshop with tools including mPDF: https://github.com/mpdf/mpdf

Suitable for designers, typographers, web and PHP developers. All skill levels will gain insights into the challenges of making PDF in non-Latin languages, and the quality of results which can be achieved.

Participants

A small group will benefit from exploration of their individual use cases. A larger group will follow a more structured programme.

I've previously hosted workshops at Mozfest and many other events.

Outcome

Participants will have all they need to create PDFs from HTML sources. Follow-up can be offered through the mPDF community on GitHub or the Booktype forums.

Session could also be interesting for translators if they have some HTML or CSS skills.
