Description

Last year the Raspberry Pi Foundation joined forces with the UK Space Agency, ESA and the UK Space Trade Association to run a competition called Astro Pi that gave school-age students in the UK the chance to devise computer science experiments for British ESA Astronaut Tim Peake to run aboard the ISS. Project lead, Dave Honess, will discuss the Astro Pi Mission in more detail and run a hands-on coding Raspberry Pi workshop demonstrating how participants can be involved.

Agenda

Workshop attendees will be able to get up close to the Astro Pi space certified hardware having tried out some simple coding activities showcasing the Sense HAT's capabilities, such as measuring temperature, humidity, movement and more set within the context of work on the International Space Station.

Participants

The workspace will be set up for up to 25 participants with one workshop lead and at least 4 facilitators to help with debugging and technical queries. Small numbers of participants can have 1:1 tuition with our numerous skilled staff and have the opportunity for Q&A directly with those involved in Astro Pi.

Outcome

Participants will have up to date knowledge of new developments with Astro Pi and how to get involved in the next chapter. Participants will be pointed to free resources where they can continue their learning at home.

@arlissc this is the session for the science fellows if you still have plans to do a paper with the Pi kids, still interested?
