Open source game development and design with Unity and Blender.
Participants will create open world environments through a series of smaller game building activities to learn the components of game design and game mechanics.
Agenda
CoderDojo NYC piloted this curriculum with our Girls First Digital Studio Program in partnership with the NY Hall of Science to explore open world game creation in a fun and collaborative environment.
Within the first half we'll focus on open world building with Unity and then transition into 3D object design in Blender. Finally bringing it all together in Unity to create a few small games that can lead into a larger project that participants can save on itch.io.
Participants
For larger groups we envision having them work in pairs or small groups with guided hands-on lessons broken down step-by-step.
And a presentation showcasing activities and projects that our Girls First Digital Studio students built during their 6-week program
Outcome
Being able to create their first open world, open sourced games that they can continue working on in the future.
We envision this spanning into a larger online collaborative youth maker community. We'd love to see how these projects and curriculum scale in a larger more global environment outside of our Greater NYC community.
Thanks for the submission! Unfortunately this session has not been selected as part of the program for 2016. Please expect an email from us with further information very soon.
