Description
In this session, we will present the comprehensive K-12 tech curriculum that we use at the Browning School, a k-12 boys school in Manhattan with a well-developed technology program. We will show how we incorporate design and computer science into each grade level in our technology. Specifically, we will highlight how online blended learning tools, such as edX or CodeHS, support and extend our program. They allow our students to work at their own pace in a differentiated classroom. We will show the attendees how the online tools function and how they align with our goals of allowing students to be exposed to different areas of computing while developing areas of mastery. Finally, we will offer advice based on our experience and student data to consider what might be possible in other classroom and school settings.
Agenda
Our program has been thoroughly developed over the past few years and has led to successful students and teachers. Many of our students take optional intermediate and advanced courses, including the Advanced Placement test, and perform well in CS courses in college. This model which combines blended learning tools with traditional classroom can be adapted in other settings and can be differentiated for a variety of students and teachers.
Participants
With a small group, we can delve directly into the tools. With 15, we can facilitate a discussion and rely on the wisdom of the group. With 25, we would stick with to our agenda and setup question for people to things about in groups.
Outcome
Participant will have a grasp of the following topics:
Finding resources to support CS program
Training teachers and students using blended learning tools
Thanks for the submission! Unfortunately this session has not been selected as part of the program for 2016. Please expect an email from us with further information very soon.
