Description

Activity - engaging citizen scientists and analytics experts: Attendees will be taught the basic principles of Human Centric Lighting and how the body’s organ functions are directly linked to the rise and fall of the sun. From NASA to horticulturists, light is increasingly recognised as a drug for living organisms. If used correctly, light can improve sleep as well as focus. Experiment with Smart Diffuser and experience the effects of the light: Based on research carried out in classrooms, offices and even on the International Space Station, attendees will be able to program a set of Quantum Dot enhanced lights (the Smart Diffuser TM) to shift colour temperature over a 10 minute period and find out the effect on their body. Nano-Lit will stream the data collected in real time to an online server to see if results are valuable and what they tell us about Human Centric Lighting.

Agenda

After programming the lights to shift between different colour temperatures (people will be guided to program the lights according to their needs, ie. Which do they find more challenging, falling asleep or focusing?) they will then spend ten minutes (tbc) in a Light Tent where the lights will emit at the colour temperatures they’ve selected. Using monitoring devices (tbc. – HRV, Blood pressure) a number of different measurements will be taken, mirroring the tests carried out by NASA on Astronauts during their time on the International Space Station. Attendees vital signs will be recorded before, during and after the ten minute period in the Light Tent. When not used by the workshop attendees, the Light Tent will be available to international travellers as a Jet Lag tent, based on experiments carried out by Dr. Czeisler. Blue light treatment will be available in the tent for 10 minute increments (tbc).

Participants

Thirty minutes will be devoted to explaining the impact of light on the body and how to program the lights. Each attendee will be allotted a time slot to spend ten minutes (tbc.) inside the Light Tent where the lights will emit colour temperatures of their choosing. Once each person has been allotted a time, they can then spend their time: learning more about the Nano-Lit Smart Diffuser TM watching data feed from people during their time in the Light Tent programming their own light settings for their time in the Light Tent

Outcome

Attendees will be provided information on applications and products that support Circadian Rhythms, as well as their own data on how their body responded to the lighting program they designed. We will monitor participants, before, during and after their Light Tent experience, using standardised stress tests and sensor systems.

This sounds fascinating, will try to come to your session! Has any research been done with children and youths? Focusing can be a real challange for some, this with my daughter in mind and for others the ability to focus is a natural gift that can be too extremely developed, could this help them?

Planning to include this in the "garden"

@Saallen we'd like to invite all stipend recipients and other air travellers for the Jet Lag treatment/research.
