Description

What does scraping actually mean? Why would I need databases and what the heck is MongoDB? What's the difference between SQL and SQLite? And can I truncate my y-axis or will the data vis community kill me?

Even if you've worked with data for years, you might have simple questions like that. And now it's too late to ask. Waaaay too late. Nobody can ever know that you still don't know what Pandas is. Or why people would use PostgreSQL.

If you feel this way: Fear not! Let's finally demystify these things. During this session, we will all (anonymously) submit questions and we will all answer them immediately. Because self-taught as many of us are, we have gaps in our knowledge and skills that other people can fill. And we all can fill other people's knowledge gaps. This workshop is for data lovers of any kind; beginner or expert.

Agenda

All participants will write down their questions on post-its and put it in a box That's possible during the whole session – if you think of a new idea, write it down and put it in the box.

Then everybody will draw a question and we will all try to figure out the question together. As the host of the session, I'll make sure that everybody gets to say something in the process. Maybe I let everybody in the round draw at least one question.

Participants

If there are more than 10 people, I will split up the sessions in two groups, to make sure that everybody will feel comfortable speaking up. If there are only 3 participants, I'm sure we'll still have a splendid conversation.

Outcome

The outcome is a) an Etherpad with all the question (and hopefully some quick answers) and b) a blog post of mine where I give good answers to the most urgent question.
