Description

This session is meant to encourage people to awaken the creator in them by teaching them creative product management through hands-on design. From a complex idea people will need to work as a team to turn that idea into a product while being walked through with some of the most important product design/management principles. It is meant to be a fun session mixing up technology, problem solving, creativity, arts and the web.

Agenda

People will be randomly split into groups. We will then provide them with a deck of cards with a complex set of product ideas. For example, design an alarm clock for a person that is both deaf and blind. This deck will be full of product ideas of varying complexities. Once every team gets their card we will work by guiding them through some basic yet important principles of product management/design so that they get their idea into a product. Then with those things in mind, such as creating a mock up, brainstorming, design decisions, considering user experience, defining outcomes/pros/cons, providing the programmatic implementation of it with pseudocode and more. The best implementations will now present their product to us from idea to final product through their mockups and other documentation they have come up with.

This is a very interactive yet brain stimulating and fun activity.

Participants

The format of this session makes it highly adaptable. If we have 3 participants each person will work independently. If we have 15 they can work in 3 teams of 5. If we work with 25 people we can have 5 teams of 5 and to make this even more interesting we can get them to assign roles to their members. Like UX designer, developer, product manager, and so on where each person will do their part of the work. We won't be writing actual code so that this can be easily done by beginners, we will work with pseudocode and for designs will will do sketches on paper, and colors (if that is possible to have). Brainstorming can be done with post-it. There are infinite possibilities to this.

Outcome

As an outcome of this after the festival users will have a clearer direction of how to turn an idea they have into a product. They will be able to contribute to the open web by showcasing these principles as they work on their own products. Also if we work on this workshop by assigning roles to each participant in the teams, each person will get to know a bit of the roles that involve the creation of a product in the tech industry.

Lastly it will help awaken their creative side and hopefully encourage them to keep that passion going.
