Description
During this session we'll explore collaboratively how audiences can be invited to engage with digital art collections, both remotely through the web and in a gallery / museum space. We will brainstorm what advantages can be unlocked for both galleries and visitors, and propose solutions to challenges surrounding digital art collections.
We aim to explore questions like:
The facilitators will introduce their work on the digital collection platform webumenia.sk as a use case to open up questions and challenges surrounding digital art collections.
Agenda
Intro [10min]
A brief show and tell of facilitator's work on the digital collection platform webumenia.sk at the R&D Lab of the Slovak National Gallery. Ideally we'll also invite editors, curators and developers working on other collections (e.g. Tate, V&A, Europeana, you?) to briefly share their approaches and challenges in user participation.
Break out Brainstorm [80min]
Next we break out in small groups (3-6 participants) to brainstorm challenges such as:
Sharing outcomes [30min: 5 x 6 groups]
After brainstorming, each group presents outcomes to the other participants in a quick stand-up presentation. After every presentation there is opportunity for questions and feedback.
Participants
The plenary intro will stay short and snappy. Then the group quickly breaks out into smaller teams (3-6 participants), this will keep discussions focussed and lively and allows everyone around the table to contribute.
For brainstorming: 3 participants would form 1 team. 25 participants would form 5 teams.
The length of brainstorm vs sharing sessions will flex if group numbers drastically differ from 10-20 participants.
Outcome
We're aiming for the following outcomes:
