Description

In this session you will learn about the Ananse Platfom. It is the largest curated open database of innovation spaces. Listed Innovation spaces include Alternate Tech Spaces, Bio-hack labs, Cluster Event / Festival, Fab Lab, Galleries, Hub, Incubator Spaces, Makerspaces / Hackerspaces, Co-Living / Ecovillage. Innovation spaces are defined by their willingness to collaborate with others , work with technology and promoting creativity. This session will also teach the attendees on how to build an interactive map showing collection of spaces for a particular geographical or interest areas and how to search a space which suits one’s needs with minimal effort and to design your own UI around it.

Agenda

Community Spaces have become incredibly important to makers of the world. These spaces are key to collaboration and innovation. But there is no aggregation and curation of these spaces thus making the spaces hard to find unless you are connected to certain networks. Connecting to these spaces helps foster the DIY culture and the circulation economy in these spaces. The Ananse platform will help curators/moderators/volunteers of web developer communities in your country or a maker space explorer or a group of artists working on cross cultural issues or someone from local government agency to promote regional community collaborations/ innovations or someone who want to help these communities to get visibility to build an interactive map with relevant fields of interest related to their community. We will share our experiences in building largest curated mapping project of open communities with Ananse platform and walk through the api's available.

Participants

We would like to hold this as a hands-on workshop. Which means helping the audience go through the different parts of the code and processes. We would love to create various kinds of maps hence would welcome more participants. But since we would have limited people on the team if there are more than 25 participants then we would convert this into a talk with introduction of apis and let the floor open to visualisations and a mini-hackathon on the data

Outcome

We are hoping we can create as many maps and uses as possible with the data during the workshop. Also we hope to foster collaborations to curate the data on spaces going forward with the workshop participants.

cc @acabunoc As it could be interesting for the collaborative piece in Open Science (apologies if you're not the right person to tag!).
