Description

This session will allow participants to learn basic commands in the programming language “C” and allow them to implement it in order to accomplish the following tasks: 1) Blink- In this activity participants will learn how to program an LED to blink at different speeds and intervals. 2) Button- Learning how to program a button to turn on a light. This allows them to develop skills learnt in the previous task 3) Magic 8 ball: This is a fun context based task which allows participants to program servos. In this exercise, we will create our version of the magic 8 ball.

Agenda

The session will be a workshop where participants will get hands on with programming the Arduino. Accomplishing these tasks will give them the skills needed to develop their programming knowledge which can be used while programming more complicated robotics.

Participants

My session is adaptable as help sheets and templates will be available for participants to get started themselves. We will have facilitators who will be available to help. With regards to a small number of participants, they will be able to work on one Arduino each. Having a larger group would mean that the participants would have to share Arduino’s this would mean that they have to work together as a team to accomplish set tasks.

Outcome

We hope that this session will encourage more people, especially the younger people like ourselves to get started in programming and robotics. This workshop demonstrates basic activities that people can do with an Arduino and an introduction into the programming language “C”. Therefore encourages people to get an Arduino and continue to do fun projects. All scripts from the session will be available on our website. From this session they will be able to communicate with the Arduino community and expand their own knowledge and try new projects.

A note that the Tale of Two Cities will have a lot of Arduino experts and gear that we could help out with if needed.

We have a set or Arduino Badges that we could use as a template to help get this (and other Arduino) sessions badged up for across the Festival

@EPIKhub Let me know what you plan for this - I'm going to remove our label as I presume it'll happen in the YZ - but happy to get this badged :)
