Description

In this session people will learn about student portfolios that are not like your typical portfolio but are transformational portfolios that use Open Badges in the school and community to create the bridge between school and the real world. The online portfolios are based on employability and academic standards as well as life skills and are powered by student achievement in the academic, arts, business and cultural world. This portfolio allows prospective employers to see all facets of a student’s achievements by a quick view of their badges and a closer look at their work. The community (businesses, volunteer agencies and more) is encouraged to participate by creating and awarding badges to students as they move through the different levels of their portfolio each year they are in school. The culminating activity of the portfolio will be an internship their senior year with a local business.

Agenda

During the session, participants will be introduced to the portfolio template and how it works. An explanation and examples on how the badges are incorporated into the portfolio and will be shared and then we will ask for the participants to brainstorm and create other ways to connect badges to the portfolio to create an atmosphere of drive and competitiveness among the students.

Participants

This session will be presented the same way whether there are 3 or 200 people in the session. All information can be shared electronically or on paper. It will just be a little cozier if there are only 3 people!

Outcome

The outcomes for this session will be that all participants will leave the session with a working template of a transformational portfolio to use in the workplace or in school. Also a network of participants will be created to allow for continued sharing of ideas, projects and badges created in the future. International badges, cultural badges, collaboration badges and more can be created and awarded all over the world via connections and activities completed over the internet. Prospective employers will be impressed by students who have a collaboration badge in their portfolio for working on a project with other students around the world!
