[ Space ] journalism
[ Secondary Space ] exhibit
[ Format ] hands-on, The outcome of the session is the generation of VR experiences
Description
In this session the attendees will learn how to enrich stories with VR experiences without the help of developers using open source tools based on web standards. This experiences can be distributed as websites or embed as widgets and are ready for headsets like the Oculus Rift and the Google Cardboard. The presented tools includes MozVR A-Frame and GuriVR (gurivr.com), developed as part of my Knight-Mozilla fellowship.
Agenda
At the beginning of the session I will explain and demonstrate the tools (a simple walk through A-Frame and GuriVR), then we are going to take some 360 pictures and videos and finally attendees will be able to use the tool to create their own experiences with my assistance if needed. Both tools are well documented and count with a lot of examples.
Participants
In this session, if there are few attendees we will have a more personal assistance for every attendee on their issues. If the number goes much higher we can create groups up to 3 people to create stories and help to each other and allow the facilitator to go to each of the groups.
Outcome
The idea is to showcase A-Frame and WebVR and how to use this tools so they can create immersive experiences in the future. Virtual Reality is something that seems to harder to incorporate for example in a newsroom that actually is. The session intends to show that the barrier is lower than they expect.
