Description

The activity will allow participants to produce a collaborative mural to share thoughts, feelings, and emotions while in the space. This session will be an opportunity to explore the power of virtual spaces in diluting race and ethnicity, and amplifying voices. In spaces in which we can adopt many personaes, and act in anonymity, fostering spaces of inclusion and social responsibility is paramount. Also, through sharing memories and feelings, this dynamic allows for all to find common grounds in our humanness.

Agenda

This session will be set up as a game, in which participants will take a selfie and write a note in response to a prompt question related to social issues topics, i.e. “what is social justice?”, or share personal memory, i.e. “when I was a child…” Photos will be hidden behind participants’ comments and we will collage a wall with all comments. To start the game, all participants photos will be lined up at the bottom of the screen with their names, and all comments will create a mural atop. Participants will guess who’s photo corresponds to which comment.

Participants

Depending on the amount of participants, each person will produce one or many comments related to various prompts provided. Ideally the activity would invite Festival Attendees to play the game (guess who said what) and also contribute with their own comments.

Outcome

From the Festival, I would like to grasp a sense of people's digital literacy in the space, level of engagement, and diversity; this activity would serve as a prototype to further this project. After the Festival, I would like to expand this interactive experience in public spaces, to open up conversations about current social issues, stressing the idea of race/ethnicity as underlying forces acting upon our believes but non-determinant in our connectivity as humans.
