Beginners workshop in scratch where the attendee can learn basic scratch commands and learn how to hack turtle graphics making shapes of different colours and sizes . Introduction to the explorerhat Pro and control the whole thing with fruit or tinfoil buttons and allow their creative juices flow.
Agenda
The workshop will start with introducing the control buttons, movement and drawing tools (pen up and down) then I'll introduce them to the maths behind the shape drawing - we will let particiants experiment with drawing shapes and exploring them, then we will look at different colours and sizes before introducing the explorer hat pro - starting with button control before moving on to the conductive materials (things that they have in their own kitchen maybe like fruit and tin foil.)
If time allows I would show them how to get the LEDs on the explorer hat to come on and off while drawing shapes.
Participants
Users will be able to work individually or in pairs/small groups depending on how many people attend and with the use of the pi's and explorer hats available.
Outcome
Participants will walk away knowing how to use scratch and how to use the explorer hat. They will become familiar with both the drag and drop code blocks for the following
pen up/down
change colour
change size
movement
commands
if
They will also learn how to use the explorer hat pro
-buttons
with crocodile clips
LED's
They will see how maths can be fun on scratch and learn to enjoy using both maths and code to create shapes and hopefully move onto making art works from shapes themselves.
They will as well get to quickly see how to use things that conduct electricity from around the house - to make it even more fun!
