Description
Learn how digital badges and eportfolios can be combined to create networks for finding, supporting, recognizing, and broadcasting learning, learners, and the learned. Learn how digital badges can support the formative, summative, and transformative potential of eportofolios and how open source and commercial eportfolio providers are embracing open badges to make learning interoperable, extensible, and discoverable.
Agenda
We will first summarize ongoing developments around the world in this regard, including several specific case studies and new platforms currently in development. We will then ask participants to provide examples of contexts in which they might consider combining the functionality of open badges and eportfolios. After discussing examples we will select two or three and really dig in and explore discuss how badges can support learning in that context.
Participants
If we only have three we might have to use our own example. If so I will use the example of how I used open badges in my own courses. We expect more and expect that all who come will like have learning contexts to consider and many will have specific examples that they will be excited to ponder. Likely to also have other badges+ eportfolio experts in attendance who will have advice for newercomers.
Outcome
We already had one meeting and one Badge Alliance community call on this topic and anticipate bringing this community together at least once per month going forward. We would expect some attendees to join efforts to define metadata standards with the Badge Alliance and the Open Badge Extension for Education at IMS Global. In particular we hope to make many international connections between related efforts.
