What will happen in your session?

Consumption of scholarly information has not changed for a long time. We still read static A4 static pages albeit digital, and search simple list databases that do not capture the full depth of a scholarly article.

In this session we imagine a world where all scholarly content is freely reusable. What new ways to consume scholarly reports can we think of? What ways to sift through the faster growing literature for the content you need? How to connect researchers while doing so? How to find reliable content instead of just related content?

There are thousands of ways to consume information, only few to sell information. Let's show the potential for innovation in scholarly consumption when open content is the norm.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

The goal is to stimulate idea-generation for information consumption of scholarly content.

The outcome will be a list of publicly available ideas, providing grounds for development after MozFest.

Additionally, connections during the session stimulate community driven efforts to put these innovative ideas into practice for the content that is already freely reusable (i.e., Open Access content).

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

A flipover/windows and whiteboard markers. Post-it notes and pens would be cool, but I can provide those myself as well.

Just asking to be sure: would the screen be on the whole time of the gallery? Because I wouldn't want to leave my own laptop lying around for operational security reasons.

If this would be the case, I'd also need a device to keep connected to the screen throughout MozFest. If it's just for the 15 minute show-and-tells, it's no problem :-)

Good question, and probably yes you would leave it there; I'll see if we can solicit a burner machine to run your project, or we can just adjust it to a 15 min session and save you the secu risk.

chartgerink commented 6 years ago

I'll also see if I can get one of my old crappy machines to run as a burner too. :-)

@auremoser I fired up one of my Thinkpad X200's and it surprisingly is still running! So that's arranged. 🎆

@marcwalsh - changed session format. I've updated the end of the description in the guidebook.
