What will happen in your session?

What can scientific research learn from software development teams? How can we adapt and adopt Agile and other open web collaborative developments? What tools can improve the way research teams coordinate and communicate?

This session will be developed in two phases: On the one hand, a dynamic to think together how to adapt Agile for open research projects. On the other, detecting and discussing potential requirements for a web-based research management application.

If you know or apply some Agile methodology, or you are a developer working in the open via Github or similar, join us to imagine and discuss how to improve open science. If you are a researcher, bring your projects or daily challenges to the session.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

The aim of the session is to improve the way in which research teams can coordinate, using not only open source tools but also by learning how to work transparently and efficiently as software developers in Agile and open internet environments do. Following different dynamics of co-design and discussion, it will be possible to obtain new clues and data on ways to improve the development of open science in a collaborative way, as well as outlining requirements for digital tools that can help in that purpose.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

I will need a projector and ideally large size postits, as well as a couple of whiteboards and markers. In case I need printed material I will produce it and I will bring it myself.

Time needed

90 mins

Thank you for taking the time to submit a session to MozFest. Due to the high level of submissions, we’re unable to accept all proposals and unfortunately, your session was not part of the final group.

Thank you for taking the time to submit and we will follow up on email very soon.

Hi @esenabre , my name is Kasia and I work on Mozilla’s Internet Health Report. At Mozfest we will be present with an “Internet Research Hub” #618 (last comment) - an easy-going, cozy space for discussions and networking both with us about Internet Health and among researchers themselves.

We also invite anyone who does work in an Internet research field to sign up and present their work at a couple of open display tables we will have in the hub. We will promote these sessions throughout the festival. You can do it spontaneously with pen and paper on site or if you would like to save a spot beforehand, drop me an email at kasia@mozillafoundation.org with a short description of the session.

In any case, I would like to invite you to pass by the hub and say hi. We will start with an informal "Research and coffee grinder” get-together at the beginning of the festival where people can get to know each other. Space and exact schedule for the Hub are still being decided and I will update you once we know the details. Hope to see you there!
