What will happen in your session?

We would like to set-up an interactive area within the Web Literacy space that will feature up to 5 Mozilla Club Leaders and the work they are doing around the world. The showcase will include a curated collection of images, cultural artifacts, hands-on activities, languages, projects and will be set up for the duration of the festival. Each club leader will showcase examples of how they are addressing internet health issues in their country through web literacy events, thimble projects, workshops, trainings, localization and more. Festival visitors will get a tour of the world through the eyes of club leaders and be able to visualize how web literacy affects their community. The area will be staffed by club leaders/staff.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

Our goal is to highlight the wonderful diversity and expertise that exists among network leaders that lead Clubs in more than 50 countries around the globe. As well as show how teaching and learning differ globally. A healthy web and web literate people need a variety of solutions. Leaders who are able to join us in person at the festival will showcase internet health issues they face in their communities and the solutions they create through Club events and gatherings.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

Walls to hang posters and images (these can be portable walls), two tables, posters and paper materials, tape, scissors.

Time needed

All weekend, as an installation, exhibit or drop-in session

@flukeout the proposal is in! Let us know what you and the other wranglers think. @amirad and I will wait to curate for this until we get your thoughts. Thanks!

amirad commented 7 years ago

Thanks @jvallera @flukeout - excited to bring some 'around the world showcase' to this space and feature the work of our talented network.

sedgwickkm commented 7 years ago

Adding myself as this could work well in Digital Inclusion too!

ghost commented 6 years ago

Hey @amirad while doing teach the web session you can also use localweb project. I feel somehow both of the project working on same direction. You can take this project inside your session

amirad commented 6 years ago

Thanks @drashti4

flukeout commented 6 years ago

@jvallera - we'll also want to get some kind of banner made up. Can you provide copy for that?

Something along these lines ^

If you could chuck it into the etherpad, that would be handy...

flukeout commented 6 years ago

Dropping the WIP poster design for this here for now as well for reference...

Yay to banner! added copy to pad. and notes about what to change on poster.

flukeout commented 6 years ago

👍

flukeout commented 6 years ago

Added a redpen to track design work:

amirad commented 6 years ago

These posters/banners look amazing. Great job on the design @flukeout and edits @jvallera - thank you both for all the work in making this showcase a unified and exciting experience

flukeout commented 6 years ago

👍 thanks! I've updated the redpen to also include a kind of intro poster we can use to direct people towards the stations...

https://redpen.io/p/bgbc1b5221fedeced9

Maybe we can put it on a kind of stand. Looks like we'll have to handle our own printing via https://www.pixartprinting.co.uk/

@jvallera would you be able to look through that website and see what our options would be for the posters & intro banner? Would appreciate that a lot.

flukeout commented 6 years ago

Am thinking maybe of something like this...

https://www.pixartprinting.co.uk/wide-format/printing-flat-bed-rigid-materials/acrylic/

100cm x 140cm

amirad commented 6 years ago

Those boards are dreamy. I was talking to Julia about playing around with some multi-lingual posters or signage as pointers to the space. It could be multi-lingual signs or one word in many languages that emphasize the global-ness of the area.

flukeout commented 6 years ago

We could leave some blank white space on the intro banner where people can write in different languages maybe?

flukeout commented 6 years ago

For the individual posters, I'm thinking of this...

image

50x70 or maybe 70x100 cm?

Poster Update

Hey so I'm prepping the files for 70cm x 100cm for print on the cardboard stock. I'll print 11 pieces in case one gets messed up. That should come to $75 which we can split between our budgets? Let me know.

Please provide any final comments & thoughts on the posters in the redpen:

I want to send the print job tomorrow.

jvallera commented 6 years ago

Thanks @flukeout these boards are perfect. Leaving white space on the banner will be great. They can also use paper and markers to make personal signs like we did at the entrance of the web lit space last year. @amirad is best to answer budget q.

amirad commented 6 years ago

Yesssss to white space. And yes to splitting that cost.

flukeout commented 6 years ago

Okay an update... I've sent the entrance poster to print. 100cm x 140cm on a foam board. It's got blank speech bubbles that the leaders can write "Welcome" into in their native language (or something like that). Looks like this...

Good news, we can print our other posters at Ravensbourne on the Friday of the fest, so let's do that. Sound good? I'll have the files prepped & ready to go.

jvallera commented 6 years ago

Sounds great! Could we also print posters/pics from leaders at Ravensbourne? or better to print separately...

Thanks a million.
