[ UUID ] 2115d390-a2c6-466c-aaf6-5fe4f24d6e37

[ Session Name ] Kill all the Orcs, Hack all the Things [ Primary Space ] Privacy and Security [ Secondary Space ] Web Literacy

[ Submitter's Name ] Chad Walker [ Submitter's Affiliated Organisation ] This talk would be 100% unaffiliated with my employer, Target Corporation. [ Submitter's Github ] @cryptomancer-actual

What will happen in your session?

I could do a few things.

I could give a talk that is an overview of how I have been using the tabletop roleplaying hobby as a means for security/privacy education and advocacy, both in the first game I released (Cryptomancer), and a forthcoming game about network resiliency in the face of Internet shutdown, inspired by the Egyptian Arab Spring.

I could also run a few sessions of Cryptomancer for players. I could see myself running a morning session and an afternoon session (about 3 hours each) for about 5 players, different players each time, in a break-out room or something.

I could also permit Mozilla to give every single attendee a free PDF copy of Cryptomancer.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

1) To demonstrate that security/privacy stuff can be outrageously fun in the right context. 2) To demonstrate that security educators/advocates can get a lot mileage out of playing in the hobby/genre spaces people already occupy. 3) To give folks ideas they can apply to their security interactions in their organizations and communities. 4) To continue to demystify tabletop role-playing games, and show how they are a totally normal, banal, and entertaining way to pass the time, tell stories, and share positive memes. 5) To get outrageous free press. :P

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

For a talk, I'd like to borrow someone's laptop to present slides.

For game sessions, I'd need a table that can fit 6 people comfortably in a break-out room that's not super loud (i.e. not in a public hall).

Time needed

60 mins

@cryptomancer-actual, Chad W, did an excellent job rallying community members for the Cryptomancer Challenge during the Global Sprint. I would love to see his talk run for 60 minutes in a classroom space and for him to have some time in a shed-like drop-in space one day or each day to run an adventure dealing with Privacy & Security that was developed during the sprint. This would be an outstanding addition to something like a Mozilla Privacy Arcade sub-space on the floor.

@cryptomancer-actual Hi Chad reaching out to you requesting confirmation of your attendance for Mozfest @chadsansing clarifying this is correctly labelled as Shed and not Privacy Arcade. Correct? cc/ @jonathanKingston

chadsansing commented 7 years ago

@bunnybooboo - my core desire is to use Mozilla Privacy Arcade (MPA) as a label to link sessions from Chad W., Antero G., Tiphaine R., and Geraldo B. together thematically. I think @cryptomancer-actual could use a classroom space for the presentation he suggests, but a shed space for running sessions of his game he suggests as an alternative. If there is space and time for both, we might invite him to do both and see what he says.

In terms of space design, the MPA doesn't need to be a persistent, drop-in space; I know you've been working on space design and have a much clearer vision of the floor than I do, so I am happy to defer to you in terms of placement.

bunnybooboo commented 7 years ago

@chadsansing As we've only just the floor allocation today the draft layout is being worked on Thu/Fri. Prepare for some rough designs. These MPA sessions are all likely in the same physical location. We're sharing a rather large floor (Level 6) with Decentralization and they have a pretty hefty volume of sessions. Will share as an when we have further info.

@bunnybooboo Confirming I'm still attending. @chadsansing Thanks for figuring out the logistics.

bunnybooboo commented 7 years ago

haha thank @cryptomancer-actual Sorry to ping you again, but I'm now locking down ticketing. Just checking it's only you as facilitator for this session? No additional names I need to grab from you?
