What will happen in your session?

Postcard from Casa Jasmina is an IoT interactive installation using conversational UI. During the exhibition user will control through a chatbot some of the basic devices within a home, trying to combine them and have a deeper user experience. Through archetypical shapes that represents the different functions of the house the user will have the opportunity to interact with a chatbot, express needs and receive a feedback that should be a message or a function. Six different wooden “cubes” represent basic home automation system. A fan for a temperature control system, an amplifier, a thermal printer for personal data specification, a sensor tower, a lighting system and a smart mirror.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

With Postcard from Casa Jasmina, we want to bring a 1: 1 prototype of Casa Jasmina, a smart home with a completely open source technology. Postcard from Casa Jasmina wants to show how it will be possible to interact with the home and its technologies in the future. That's why the visitor can text with the individual units using a chatbot, a technology Casa Jasmina is developing to control the smart home.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

For the installation is needed:

Time needed

@CasaJasmina very exciting to see this proposal!

Given that we are planning this for the privacy/security space, could you expand a bit on how you plan to integrate these themes within the exhibit? For instance, in the model of Casa Jasmina, is there an understanding of how the data flows within the network, or how humans in the home would be able to control their personal information?

vongomben commented 7 years ago

@brettgaylor thanks for the feedback.

Casa Jasmina exhibit postcards from casajasmina offers a representation of the home as a selfhosted environment, inwhich the bot (wit.ai powered acts like a comunication with the vitisors.

is there an understanding of how the data flows within the network, or how humans in the home would be able to control their personal information?

They do have control on all the information they share, on a localhosted site.

We may or may not have time to add a dowse.eu implementation on the system, it would be interesting to have some room to hack with them during the event.

Thanks for that response @vongomben. Your proposal has reached the Privacy and Security team's next phase of selection.

I see you were granted access to a stipend in 2016. In an effort to grow Mozilla's network, I've been regrettably informed that we can not consider funding a stipend for you again this year. How does that affect your application? Might you be able to rustle a Plan B together to get here?

bunnybooboo commented 7 years ago

I'm sorry to have to inform you, your proposal did not make it to our draft P&S space schedule. Unlocking for consideration from other teams.

vongomben commented 7 years ago

Thanks for your replies @bunnybooboo. Sorry for my silence - I tried to come back to bret via mail because I'm a little bit old fashioned.

Apparently this took too long though.

Is rustling for plan B still an option?

bunnybooboo commented 7 years ago

@vongomben The speed in responses had no bearing on your application decision. 2 weeks ago I was simply seeking as much information as I could obtain to assist our deliberation process. This proposal was part of our final shortlist, which means it was considered to be great quality. Unfortunately, due to the volume of great sessions, our space has had to say no to a considerable number of really good applications.

The curation process is still not over. All teams are currently considering draft schedules. Your session may still slot perfectly into a space.

We'll take this session in the Unbox space, if it's not accepted elsewhere.

mozfest-bot commented 7 years ago

Thank you for taking the time to submit a session to MozFest. Due to the high level of submissions, we’re unable to accept all proposals and unfortunately, your session was not part of the final group.

Thank you for taking the time to submit and we will follow up on email very soon.

vongomben commented 7 years ago

@mozfest-bot, I assumed I've been assigned to UnBox, why are you sending me out?!

Please, let me come to Mozfest!
