Also realize this falls under Digital Inclusion
Hey @kenyatta1 - do you have space for this in digital inclusion?
@KirstieJane we unfortunately do not have space. We had an overwhelming amount of amazing sessions in the digital inclusion milestone.
I completely believe that @kenyatta1!! Thank you for letting me know 😄
@KirstieJane Hive Chicago will support travel for this session.
That's fantastic @kenyatta1! Thank you ✨
I'd really like to see if we could incorporate proposal #506 by @monsauce into this idea, I think it would be a good combination 😄
Colour me very interested! I hope we can find a way to double the awesome and incorporate #506
We've been doing this rapid prototyping with pvc with great success, I would change the hands on portion from cardboard to pre cut pvc with various elbows https://youtu.be/FzJCz3KWlc8
@monsauce I am an actor and improviser by trade and always love to incorporate improv into my work. It's exactly the "yes and" mentality that got this project off the ground and gets students and teachers to think bigger and reach farther than they would have normally. It is a wonderful way to "prime the pump" for innovation. I'm a little uncertain how best to proceed, @monsauce, thoughts? Would it still be 90 minutes? Totally fine if so. Let's "yes and" the poo outta it!
@chrisbresky and @Monsauce - thank you! This makes me so happy!
You'll hear more information from us over the next couple of weeks - including more information on the "gallery" format 😄
Look forward to it! Thanks :)

Same here! Stoked for you email.
@chrisbresky let's wait to here more about the gallery format and then maybe let's set up a call to see how we can incorporate all our ideas together?

What will happen in your session?
This session is about framing scientific exploration as a narrative to lower barriers of entry for inexperienced makers.
A few months ago, a sonic boom shook the residents of the Midwest. A bright green fireball, a meteor the size of a minivan travelling at 38,000 miles an hour, entered our atmosphere and exploded with a force equal to a detonation of 10 tons of dynamite. Weather radar spotted the end of its journey as it splashed down in Lake Michigan. So now it’s there… still… and nobody, not even NASA scientists, know exactly how to retrieve it.
We’ll rapid prototype solutions to this problem, with the money we don’t have, the knowledge we do have, and the innovation found through collaboration.
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
Students accustomed to school’s structured lessons can often be overwhelmed by the open endedness of creating in a makerspace. Each attendant will experience firsthand how connecting design challenges to a set narrative helps focus and free innovation.
When students and educators can look to each other and ask, “How can we accomplish this?” and both be equally clueless about the answer, the only outcome is surprising innovation.
Each attendant becomes a part of our science team. They will gain the same sense of ownership over the project that each current student participant does. Since a hunt like this has never been attempted, every question asked is important, and every idea shared has value.
If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
