What will happen in your session?

The session will commence with a 30min presentation incorporating clips from popular Science fiction movies, demonstrating how disability is portrayed in leading characters positively rather than an impairment or weakness. Each group will then be given a famous film scene to work with and asked to reimagine the scenes main or key character with a disability or impairment. They will be allowed to creatively apply this change and finally present their changes to the group in any way they choose; as a script, a description of how they felt about the changes or even as a re-enacted piece filmed on their mobile devices.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

The importance of perception portrayed by the modern media in popular culture and how this can influence what society believes or understands to be the truth.

Exploring how disability is portrayed in popular culture and the importance of accurate and truthful portrayal to foster acceptance and understanding in modern society.

To challenge existing cultural beliefs around disability, from one of impairment or limitation to one of ability and acceptance.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

The session will require a projector and audio system, together with A3 paper and markers for the creative participation section. The projector and audio system will need to suitable for VGA/Audio and HDMI connection.

They did a great zombie version last year, our youth really enjoyed it!

This seems like a very engaging way to present this topic. I wonder if it could be a session within the Gallery—something people can participate in throughout the weekend.

I'm also wondering if we can draw a stronger connection to internet health.
