What will happen in your session?

We'll (re)discover together the Raspberry Pi, initially dreamt up as an educational platform, by looking back at its history, its origins. Next we'll familiarise ourselves with it use at the most simple level. Then we'll explore the possibilities which are opened to us as a "swiss-army-knife" type tool helping us discover the world of FLOSS ('Free/Libre Open Source Software').

Ideally the possibility of doing this session in the context of a workshop (with 10-20 Raspberry Pi/Pi-Tops) but could also be presented as a conference/presentation.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

To help discover the functions of the Raspberry Pi and more generally the wealth of opportunities available to launch oneself into the world of GNU/Linux and all its free/libre ecosystem. To be able to exchange with participants about their existing knowledge and to motivate them to go further, whatever there current level of involvement or usage.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

At bare minimum, I would be able to present just with my computer and a projector.

But ideally, I will use the PiTops from the "champions" : Andrew Mulholland, Cat Lamin, etc... for the session so as to be able to have a more "Hands on" spirit for the participants! That would imply the electrical installation (extensions, multiple adapters, etc) and peripheral devices (keyboard, mouse) but not necessarily internet access or other materials.

People can also explore this universe via there own computers (for instance the Raspbian Desktop x86 distribution) if needs be.

Nous (re-)découvrons ensemble le Raspberry Pi, initialement conçu comme plateforme éducative, en passant par son histoire, ses origines. Ensuite nous entamons une familiarisation de son fonctionnement au plus simple. Puis nous explorons les possibilités qui s'ouvrent à nous en considérant le potentiel du "nano-ordinateur à la framboise" comme couteau suisse menant vers le monde du FLOSS ('Free/Libre Open Source Software').

Idéalement la possibilité de faire dans le contexte d'un atelier (avec une dizaine-vingtaine de Raspberry Pi/Pi-Top) mais pourrait aussi être présenté comme conférence/présentation.

Faire découvrir le Raspberry Pi et plus généralement la richesse des opportunités disponible quand on se lance dans le monde de GNU/Linux et tout son écosystème libre. Pouvoir échanger avec les gens sur leurs connaissances existantes et les motiver d'aller plus loin, peu n'importe leur niveau d'implication actuel.

Je peux faire ma présentation juste avec mon ordinateur et un projecteur.

Idéalement, j'utiliserai éventuellement les PiTops des "champions" : Andrew Mulholland, Cat Lamin, etc... pour la session pour pouvoir faire un vrai esprit de "Travaux Pratiques" aussi pour les participants ! Du coup, ça implique installation électrique (rallonges, multiprises, etc) et des périphériques (clavier, souris) mais pas obligatoirement accès internet ou d'autres matériaux.

Les gens peuvent explorer également cet univers via leurs propres ordinateurs pendant la session, si besoin est.

@tyrower did you mean to put the youth zone as your first space choice or digital inclusion; just that you mentioned in you description the use of our Pi labs with Andrew which is in the youth zone space so assumed you ticked the wrong box? And your session cant be run without a whole load of Pi resouces so logitically it has to be the Pi Labs.

Youth zone is perfect! My first MozFest so still working it all out ;o) After the exchanges here it's a theme linked around "digital inclusion" but the Youth Zone is clearly where we're meant to be! ;oD

@hjbailey - Ive awarded a Github Stipend to @tyrower; they are both part of our youth extended network (Code club France) - Digital Inclusion is set as their first space listed, please let me know if you want to schedule them in digi inc (We are also creating a Mobile Pi station Trolly now so they and our other youth can take part in the whole festival) so we can shedule them twice, else happy to host them ourselves. cc/ @Saallen
