What will happen in your session?

Katie Jayne Appleyard will lead a session ‘The Real You?’ exploring Social Media and Expression as part of the collaboration strand for Off the Beat - Helix Arts Youth Music project. The group will: • reflect how they share via social media and how they curate themselves on differing platforms and why? • under-go a micro session in an art form eg animation and complete a challenge • work in pairs/ small group to respond on different specific social media outputs • use this stimulus to create a small digital artwork to represent their versions • review the process to explore what they share and how they adapted it for the intended social media platform • share films during the process (Streaming during/posting after the session)

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

‘The Real You?’ would focus on delivering an film/animation based workshop exploring how different groups express feelings whether it be happiness, anger, sadness or any array of the emotions on offer into purposeful or meaningful route for communication and collaboration.

Background discussion may include: When does expression become overload of information which you really don’t need or want to know? What does social media really present to you? Respond artistically!

Further reach and awareness for Off the Beat and wider collaborative partners/networks are attracted.

Hi @flukeout - We'd also like to propose this session in to the Web Lit space as Arts Award Supported if you're keen?

Just to check that you'd be happy to potentially run the session twice @CatherineHearne - once in the youth zone, and once out in the Web Lit Space?

@emrysgreen @flukeout this session is accepted within the youth zone. Please do not change the milestone as this will make scheduling really hard for me. Same goes for any other session that has the youth zone accepted lable

Is it feasible to add both milestones so we know it's accepted to both? The arts award bursaries are primarily for the youth led track participant sessions so do need to ensure it runs there also and doesn't get lost in programming...

Hey @emrysgreen - I added the Multiple Spaces label instead. Issues can only have one milestone. We'll consider this added to Web Literacy as well. Cheers!

Hi @EPIKhub & @flukeout - Helix have asked if they can be scheduled for Saturday currently because they'll travel down for the briefing Friday and then may have to travel back Saturday depending on the price of the hotels they need to get for the group. Hopefully they can stretch it to Sunday morning attendance too but being cautious on budget... Is that Ok to consider in your scheduling please?

@emrysgreen @flukeout I was hoping they would stay in the youth zone from at least Lunch onwards on Sat as I would like to invite them to take part in the fire side chat we are organising for youth. Additionally we are hosting training for youth on Friday 13:00 onwards to prepare for the fire side chat and as their primary space is the youth zone on Friday they should be with our group.

@emrysgreen @flukeout - "ALL" session leaders leading in the youth zone as their primary space (i.e has our milestone) will be expected to attend the Friday youth zone gathering and be part of our group. We are drafting an email to all our accepted sessions to that effect, once the email is ready Ill cc you in the email. cc/ @Saallen

That's great @EPIKhub . But I'm just thinking about those who are accepted under web lit etc only - is it worth inviting those session leaders too where possible in order to retain the valuable connection with the youth zone? Ofcourse some won't make it on other days due to the costs - even with Arts Award support it may not cover 2 nights unfortunately; although happy to try and work that up some more. Some are groups, others are only 1 or 2 people - and we could explore increasing support if necessary if we somehow find a needed increase of only £50 or so?

@emrysgreen - Any young person leading at MozFest is welcome to be part of our Friday youth zone group and would be very welcome irrespective of of which is their primary space allocation. That said, traditionally what happens as part of the big "Gathering" is we get sorted into our primary spaces as one big group. We then after the end of the training we get during the gathering go to our invididual spaces. Additionally I (as in you) should OK it first with the space wranglers if you want to change the order of what happens post gathering on the Friday. cc/ @Saallen

Hello! As MozFest is approaching we’re asking that you reply to the issue with an outline of the topics or activities for your session. You don’t need to send your slidedeck to us, but if you could please reply to this issue with an outline of the topics and time estimates for your session that would be great.

I wanted to also check in about your proposed session length. Is there any way that you could trim down to 60 minutes? We have limited slots for 90 minutes and we want to see if this is a possibility. Please consider this as you send us your session outline. Thanks!

Hiya @epikhub - as per earlier in the thread & the label, this session is set to run twice - in YZ & WL. So only assuming here, but @jonathanprozzi is just sharing out a standard request to all their sessions?

I'm due to talk to Helix next week (unfortunately the lead contact has had to change suddenly and earlier than planned) so will follow up.
I've sent out information gathering such as this request, to all youth led theme facilitators.

@CatherineHearne I have not had a YouthZone facilitator administration online form be completed for this session. It has been emailed out twice now over the past few weeks to the email address associated with this session. Could this please be filled in ASAP or this session may not be able to take place. If you have any issues completing the form or have actually already filled it in, please let us know.

Hi @jonathanprozzi and @flukeout and @gbaman - I caught up with Amy at Helix who has taken this over and she is working with the artist & young people next week who are coming down. I can give you:

Materials required: Flipchart, paper, pens, board markers, post it notes, glue sticks + 2 x ipads for session

Session outline (well bullets): As part of this Mozfest 2017 session: You will reflect on how you share yourself differently on different social media platforms. You will be challenged to use smart technology and open source software to make a selfie animation with a professional artist. You will respond to music made by young people in the North East... ...And you will share your creations with them and the world through social media. The workshop is for all but may be of particular interest to those interested in film, animation, and music collaboration. It may also be of interest to workshop facilitators as a case study in micro-teaching.

Please could these guys be scheduled on the Saturday - they are working out travel & accommodation.

Helix will bring their 2 iPads but they have asked if MF can source 2 more iPads would be useful please. I have also sent a note to all their facilitators with your admin form link @gbaman

Q- Do all facilitators need to bring their DBS certificate?

for context, our session is led by Sheryl Jenkins (animator/workshop leader), Katie Jayne Appleyard (young youth leader trainee), and myself, Sofie Scholten, Helix Arts ex-intern.

Hi @SofieScholten - if you put in the YZ Admin form that you have a current DBS then please do bring them along. If you don't have them & have said you're not current, then don't worry about bringing them.
