What will happen in your session?

In our session participants will have the opportunity to learn about and interact with digital technologies and methods which are being co-designed by researchers and people with disabilities, older people and/or those who are ill. The session will show how digital storytelling apps are being used by people with sight and/or hearing impairments. We will also discuss projects which are developing ways to incorporate social care into digital technology, and how tangible technologies and creative methods and inventions are helping people with dementia. The session is open to all ages and does not require technical expertise. Come along, chat to researchers, try out some tech – and help brainstorm new ideas for health technologies which are clever, creative and inclusive!

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

Often perceptions and discussions of the role of technology in the area of health are focused on wearables, fitness tracking, and ‘wellness’ apps which can help plan exercise routines, suggest healthy meals and record sleep patterns. Our session aims to disrupt these perceptions of health technology by discussing and demonstrating how technology can be developed and used in relation to care, illness and/or disability. In addition, our session will highlight the importance of creative thinking and co-designing when developing new ideas, methods and solutions. Inclusion can and should begin with the development process!

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

We would like a projector, post-it notes and pens. If possible, we would also like speakers so that we can play videos on the projector.

Time needed

60 mins

@lguariento Unfortunately, we didn't feel this session quite fit within the Digital Inclusion space this year, so I'm removing the milestone to allow other spaces to consider your proposal.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a session to MozFest. Due to the high level of submissions, we’re unable to accept all proposals and unfortunately, your session was not part of the final group.

Thank you for taking the time to submit and we will follow up on email very soon.

Hi @lguariento , my name is Kasia and I work on Mozilla’s Internet Health Report. At Mozfest we will be present with an “Internet Research Hub” #618 (last comment) - an easy-going, cozy space for discussions and networking both with us about Internet Health and among researchers themselves.

We also invite anyone who does work in an Internet research field to sign up and present their work at a couple of open display tables we will have in the hub. If you would like to present something in the Hub in addition to your official session, let me know! We will promote these sessions throughout the festival. You can sign up spontaneously with pen and paper on site or if you would like to save a spot beforehand, drop me an email at kasia@mozillafoundation.org with a short description of the session.

In any case, I would like to invite you to pass by the hub and say hi. We will start with an informal "Research and coffee grinder” get-together at the beginning of the festival where people can get to know each other. Space and exact schedule for the Hub are still being decided and I will update you once we know the details. Hope to see you there!
