[ Session Name ] Create your own off-grid, long-range mobile mesh networks [ Primary Space ] Decentralization [ Secondary Space ] Digital Inclusion

[ Submitter's Name ] Daniela Perdomo [ Submitter's Affiliated Organisation ] goTenna

[ Additional facilitators ] Rahul Subramany

What will happen in your session?

Participants will learn about the potential of truly decentralized connectivity. We'll start with a quick crash-course on the history, political economy, and technology behind telecommunications at-large. Armed with this background, we'll segue into the blue-sky possibilities of creating your own connectivity (rather than plugging into it!) with mobile ad hoc networking protocols. We’ll dive into goTenna Mesh, the first and only way to create your own long-range, off-grid, mobile mesh network anywhere in the world, and attendees will be introduced to the brand-new goTenna Mesh open SDK which turns this new technology into an open platform. We will end with a hands-on workshop related to mobile mesh networks and decentralized bottom-up applications that can be built with the Mesh SDK.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

Since this session would involve not just people's own personal devices but also goTenna Mesh hardware (and potentially some other RF equipment we would bring), we'd just want to make sure we have counter space for people to spread out and work. Power outlets nearby would also be ideal!

Time needed

90 mins

Its ok to have Spanish handouts or slides to help in Spanish. You don't need to deliver it in both at the same time. Would this bring it down to 60mins?

Another one for @marcwalsh

❤️ this - I'll be attending!

Can't see an issue for goTenna as long as it doesn't require licences for whatever frequencies it uses. It would be good to know the other RF equipment they are planning on bringing and I'll run it past Ravensbourne.

Cheers @cubicgarden

Thanks @marcwalsh

@marcwalsh goTenna Mesh works off license free frequencies. Mesh is currently certified for use in USA, Canada. We are currently going through CE certification. Expect to have this later in October.
