What will happen in your session?

We will work with the participants on conducting a focal Open Data evaluation in their country. The idea is to base this exercise, on the work that other people have done in their countries. In particular, we will use the methodology used by Artigo 19 in Brazil. For the session, the participants will:

• Choose a topic that it is important for their work: Violence, Crime, Women’s Rights, are topics that will be encouraged.
• Go to their country’s Data
• Rate data based on Technical and Thematic indicators
• Research International indicators
• Produce a one-pager of the evaluation of data on that topic
• Publish one-pager and put it available for the government and thematic institutions

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

Two main physical outcomes:

• A focal assessment on Open Data that will help on demanding more and better Open Data
• Assistants have the opportunity to focalized and utilized a Community driven Open Data methodology, instead of a broad method.

Promote better ways to demand and create Data. In the last couple of years, we have been occupied with creating a Data Pipeline, this Data Pipeline is technical and structural. It is a sorrow to admit that our efforts have been at best insufficient for the Open Data social demands. Therefore we need better methods, our attempt with this session is create the new iteration of Open Data demands.

@paulinabustos Thanks for submitting this proposal. We like the idea a lot! We have a limited number of travel and accomodation stipends to go around and these are now pretty much all assigned. Do you think you be able to come and run this session without the aid of a stipend?

Hi @paulinabustos , my name is Kasia and I work on Mozilla’s Internet Health Report. At Mozfest we will be present with an “Internet Research Hub” #618 (last comment) - an easy-going, cozy space for discussions and networking both with us about Internet Health and among researchers themselves.

We also invite anyone who does work in an Internet research field to sign up and present their work at a couple of open display tables we will have in the hub. If you would like to present something in the Hub in addition to your official session, let me know! We will promote these sessions throughout the festival. You can sign up spontaneously with pen and paper on site or if you would like to save a spot beforehand, drop me an email at kasia@mozillafoundation.org with a short description of the session.

In any case, I would like to invite you to pass by the hub and say hi. We will start with an informal "Research and coffee grinder” get-together at the beginning of the festival where people can get to know each other.
