What will happen in your session?

Data Selfie is a browser extension that helps users track themselves on Facebook; when they click, type, scroll, dwell. It then predicts various personality traits based on that data.

This installation presents one user’s results as a time-based data visualization. The projection on translucent material addresses on one hand the ‘glassy’ consumer and the transparent person, but also on the other hand the lack of information transparency.

Visual examples: http://dataselfie.it/installation

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

Internet users create different identities on the different platforms. They control how they want to be seen. Data Selfie addresses the data profiles created about them by machines at Facebook, Google and Co. – the only profiles they never get to see, but unconsciously create. This project aims to provide a personal perspective on data mining, predictive analytics and our online data identity – including inferred information from our consumption. In our data society algorithms are omnipresent and seemingly omniscient. One thing is certain, Big Data algorithms increasingly define our lives. Therefore, it is important – especially for those who are indifferent to this issue – to be aware of the power and influence of our data on ourselves.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

A technical diagram can be found at http://dataselfie.it/installation. If space is not sufficient there might be an alternative setup that requires less.

Since this is a projection a darkened area would be best.

Time needed

All weekend, as an installation, exhibit or drop-in session

@01fade we're at that point in our process where we need clarity on the stipends. Your proposal has advanced to the Privacy and Security team's next phase of deliberation. If we were unable to grant you access to a stipend, would you have other options to try? Now is the time to consider them.

brettgaylor commented 7 years ago

We can cover @01fade's travel outside of the Mozfest stipends

CONGRATULATIONS! Your session proposal has been accepted.

@01fade our team will be in further contact with you via email in the coming days.

Great news! I am excited!

Hiya @01fade We're doing all the ticketing this week so I wanted to double check that you are the only facilitator for your session? Correct?

01fade commented 7 years ago

Hi @bunnybooboo! Yes that's correct!

bunnybooboo commented 7 years ago

One last deadline this week @01fade is for the stationery and tech materials. Your PDF linked above (cc/ @brettgaylor ) Are these materials you shall be bringing with you, or are by placing that link in your materials needs making a request for these?

If we need to source items please note the deadline for the materials requests from Mozfest Production is Thursday October 12 @ 17:00 UTC.

@bunnybooboo, actually I’ve discussed a different setup than proposed originally, as I think it might be quite complicated and time consuming to hang things from the ceiling.

I would need 3 ipads and 3 pedestals/high tables. (The rest I will bring.) How could I request these?

bunnybooboo commented 7 years ago

Hey no worries at all @01fade. I'll be contacting Mozfest logistics. Not sure about the ipads but will try my best!
