[ Session Name ] Demystifying ethereum to build your own decentralized app (Ðapp) using blockchain [ Primary Space ] Decentralization [ Secondary Space ] Open Innovation

[ Submitter's Name ] Abhiram Ravikumar [ Submitter's Affiliated Organisation ] Mozilla Tech Speakers [ Submitter's Github ] @abhi12ravi

What will happen in your session?

The session will start with an overview of blockchain technology, move on to what a distributed ledger is, then introduce a real life example of bitcoin - its evolution, application and future.

Once participants realize the extent and use of blockchains, I will then introduce the concept of decentralized apps and the ethereum platform. After the context is set, we’ll dive into the hands-on workshop (https://goo.gl/5GgEg3).

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

The aim of the workshop is to ensure that participants are aware of the entire ethereum stack and by themselves - able to compile, deploy and interact with the application. Participants are made aware about blockchain - a decentralized database that is used to make sure that transactions are immutable and helps build trust among its users. At the end of the workshop, the participants would’ve built their first decentralized voting application using the ethereum framework on the blockchain.

The larger goal is to help participants to appreciate decentralization as a philosophy and the concept of trust over the internet to build applications on their own or contribute to the plethora of open source Ðapps listed here (https://dapps.ethercasts.com/).

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

We would need a few sheets of paper and pens to put down Ethereum's architecture on paper. This would help participants understand the concepts better.

Do you need 90mins?

So yes, I would need 90 minutes.

@abhi12ravi Thanks for the proposals :)

Thanks so much for submitting this proposal - it sounds like a fascinating session! We have a limited number of travel and accommodation stipends to go around and these are now pretty much all assigned. Do you think you be able to come and run this session without the aid of a stipend?

abhi12ravi commented 7 years ago

Hello @maboa Thanks for your interest in my proposal.

Like I've explained in detail over this issue, unfortunately I do not have any other sources of funding at the moment.

However, I am yet to hear from Mozilla Tech Speakers facilitators and once I do, I'll get back to you. Please do let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Cheers, @abhi12ravi

Hi @maboa I just heard from Havi, the Tech Speakers program co-coordinator. Unfortunately, they will be unable to offer me a stipend as MozFest is not completely a developer facing event.

Kindly advise on how to proceed.

Cheers, @abhi12ravi

Looks like we can support the stipend in the end sorry...!

abhi12ravi commented 7 years ago

@cubicgarden and @dvigneshwer Thanks a bunch on accepting the session and shortlisting it for stipend. I appreciate it!
