[ Session Name ] School of Rock(ing) Copyright - share your copyright story! [ Primary Space ] Open Innovation
[ Submitter's Name ] Alek Tarkowski [ Submitter's Affiliated Organisation ] Communia Association
[ Additional facilitators ] Natalia Mileszyk
What will happen in your session?
Communia Association wants to create a storytelling space and ask participants how copyright affects them. This question seems to be abstractive, therefore we want to start from storytelling. Participants will be invited to take part in a test that will help them chose which of four roles towards copyright they represent (guardians, creators, unsuspecting users and rebels - we identified them through a study of European teachers).
Afterwards they will be encouraged to share their copyright stories - we want to record these testimonies and use in policy work. Then we will highlight current EU copyright reform. We will end every conversation with “call to action” and some easy and handy tools and ideas how participants can make difference.
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
The main goal of our session is to convince participants of Mozfest that copyright matters for them and they should take action to create user friendly copyright framework. Our drop-in session will be highly interactive and informative since we want to raise awareness and motivate people to take actions. The outcome of the session will be a movie with testimonies of participants regarding their copyright experiences. Communia as an organization working in the field of public policy keeps looking for new ways of communication and narration and this “movie-experiment” will be very helpful for our organization and our work regarding copyright reform.
If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
