[ Session Name ] “ Logarithmic Functions as Applied to Economic Data: A Project-Based Learning” [ Primary Space ] Digital Inclusion

[ Submitter's Name ] Brahim Mansouri [ Submitter's Affiliated Organisation ] Faculty of Juridical, Economic and Social Sciences, Cadi Ayyad University of Marrakech (Morocco)

What will happen in your session?

The session will consist of a 90 mn participatory learning activity. The session will be divided into two sub-sessions: i) the first one deals with the origin and usefulness of logarithmic and exponential functions in a real world; ii) the second one centers on the application of such functions to effective economic data, using the EVIEWS Software.

First, the session highlights the origin of logarithms as tied to daily life. Second, it reveals how the application of logarithms to economic data allows to compute useful statistical indicators such as growth rates and elasticities while using EVIEWS. The session will permit to involving a dynamic classroom strategy to get deeper knowledge, especially through active and participatory methods to solve real-world problems.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

Educators often teach mathematics without linking them to the real world. This tendency to teach pure mathematics has been observed in many cases in spite of the increasing importance of the project-based learning paradigm and the tremendous progress in educational technology. We proposes here a curriculum project using such paradigm as well as EVIEWS in order to apply logarithmic functions to real-world economic data.

Our project has the specificity to integrate knowing and doing in the sense that the targeted audience will learn better in this arena in addition to the advantage of applying what they will know to solve problems while technologically manipulating real-world economic data to derive products that really matter.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

The session presenter will only need a video-projector, a blackboard, pens and notebooks. .

Unfortunately we didn't think this session was quite right for the Digital Inclusion space this year. I'm removing the milestone to allow other spaces to consider your proposal.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a session to MozFest. Due to the high level of submissions, we’re unable to accept all proposals and unfortunately, your session was not part of the final group.

Thank you for taking the time to submit and we will follow up on email very soon.
