[ Session Name ] Combining machine learning and crowd power to cure Alzheimer [ Primary Space ] Digital Inclusion

[ Submitter's Name ] Ieva Vaišnoraitė-Navikienė [ Submitter's Affiliated Organisation ] Human Computation Institute [ Submitter's Github ] IevaNavikiene

What will happen in your session?

During the session, participants will be briefly introduced to the Alzheimer’s research data generated at Cornell University. We will kick off a week-long challenge to find the best solution for analyzing these data of the mouse brain that combines machine learning and crowd answers generated via the Stall Catchers citizen science project. The participants will be familiarized with the goal of the challenge and the code which could help to get baseline results. Everyone will be invited to participate in the challenge and win prizes.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

There would be three main goals: 1) Collectively find the best methods for joining crowd answers and machine learning results applied to 3D mouse brain data 2) Allow participants to get a head start in the week-long challenge 3) Raise awareness about how machine learning approaches can be combined with crowd-based methods to generate solutions that would otherwise not be possible

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

I would need a projector. Also, the internet connection would be helpful (if it is not provided by default in the event).

Time needed

90 mins

This session sounds fascinating, unfortunately we don't feel it aligns with the Digital Inclusion space. I'm removing the Digital Inclusion milestone to allow other spaces to consider this proposal. @auremoser this session could be a good fit for Open Innovation. I hope the project is a success.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a session to MozFest. Due to the high level of submissions, we’re unable to accept all proposals and unfortunately, your session was not part of the final group.

Thank you for taking the time to submit and we will follow up on email very soon.

Hi @IevaNavikiene , my name is Kasia and I work on Mozilla’s Internet Health Report. At Mozfest we will be present with an “Internet Research Hub” #618 (last comment) - an easy-going, cozy space for discussions and networking both with us about Internet Health and among researchers themselves.

We also invite anyone who does work in an Internet research field to sign up and present their work at a couple of open display tables we will have in the hub. We will promote these sessions throughout the festival. You can do it spontaneously with pen and paper on site or if you would like to save a spot beforehand, drop me an email at kasia@mozillafoundation.org with a short description of the session.

In any case, I would like to invite you to pass by the hub and say hi. We will start with an informal "Research and coffee grinder” get-together at the beginning of the festival where people can get to know each other. Space and exact schedule for the Hub are still being decided and I will update you once we know the details. Hope to see you there!

Hi Kasia,

Thank you very much and I will definitely pass by :) if I will participate in the event (because my workshop was rejected).

Best wishes, Ieva
