Hi @Bee2502 Thanks for your proposal. Please can you let us know if the stipend is vital to your participation at Mozfest or if you would have the means to be able to attend without it? Thank you.
While a really great session @bee2502 - we feel like it doesn't quite line up with the goals of the Web Literacy space this year. Open Innovation and Digital Inclusion seem like pretty good fits. I've cc'd a couple of Digital Inclusion wrangler to get their attention. Thanks for submitting!

Thanks, @flukeout, for the referral. @bee2502 - this seems like it could potentially fit into the Digital Inclusion space. I'm wondering if you have thoughts on how to ensure this is a really interactive session, and not too similar to a lecture format. Will participants leave having built something or created something?
@hannahkane I was hoping to help participants get started with analysing data available for their community for mailing lists, github and/or social media (depending on time availability). It will be interactive and participants will end up building tools (read Python scripts) which extract their community data and get basic metrics from it mostly using grimoire library. The library supports other platforms too, but I choose these three as they are widely used amongst different projects. You can take a look at metrics grimoire here: https://metricsgrimoire.github.io/ .
Other than that, I wanted the session to focus on helping participants to help understand Diversity and Inclusion in their communities and how to measure it. I believe this part of the session will be very interactive as I will take an example from the participants and then brainstorm together with the participants (using whiteboards and post-its). This will be particularly helpful as then I can point out from the discussion common mistakes and biases communities usually make.
Any suggestions are welcome.
@bee2502 Thank you for your patience! We had an extremely high volume of sessions for the digital inclusion space! We're excited to inform you that your session has been accepted to Mozfest. We hope you're able to join us in London from Oct 27-29. However, we cannot provide a travel stipend. Please let us know if you are able to secure alternative travel funding before the end of September.
Thank you for taking the time to submit a session to MozFest. Due to the high level of submissions, we’re unable to accept all proposals and unfortunately, your session was not part of the final group.
Thank you for taking the time to submit and we will follow up on email very soon.

What will happen in your session?
I have been involved with Fedora - an open source project with primarily online community on defining and using metrics to understand the community and to take informed decisions on key issues. I have also worked with Mozilla on metrics for their Diversity and Inclusion strategy for Participation.
This session will discuss how attendees can extract, analyze and make informed decisions using data in their online communities - not just to understand them but also to tackle important issues like diversity, inclusion and retention. It will focus on how to choose what to measure, different ways to collect this data and how to extract information and make unbiased conclusions based on the collected data citing examples along the way.
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
By the end of the session, attendees - both community members and leaders - will know how to use data to understand their communities and its' needs better. They will have an understanding of different factors and methods to collect data from their community and will be able to choose what to measure and how to measure it based on their community size, demographics, and needs. They will know of different tools to extract information from data and how to make unbiased conclusions based on their collected data and results. The session will also help attendees on how they can use data to tackle and improve diversity and inclusion in their online community.
If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
