What will happen in your session?
We propose to create a space where participants can find out, learn and participate within the British Museum's projects in scope of Digital Humanities disciplines. Participants can learn how to capture 3D imagery of archaeological objects with the phone in their pocket, or their low spec compact digital camera; how to use open source technology to create crowd sourcing projects (via our AHRC funded MicroPasts project platform) that can aid the documentation and mission of Museums worldwide. We will enable object handling through the use of tactile 3D prints and access to VR activities using Google Cardboard for African Rock Art or our portfolio of Sketchfab 3D models.
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
This session aims to show that high impact engagement tools are easily within the reach of heritage professionals and institutions without the need for high cost tools and software. It will demonstrate and equip participants with basic skills to create 3D, or to create a crowdsourcing application on the Pybossa powered MicroPasts platform. It is hoped that it will inspire others to go down the opensource, open access route for democratisation of our cultural heritage.
If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
We will provide all materials.
