@pmichelu - Thank you for submission to the youth zone, this session is fundamentally really interesting, perhaps more so for an adult audience than teens. I will pass your session to your second space choice and I might well attend myself, I love attending these kind of sessions myself :)
Hi @pmichelu referring to the Web Literacy space narrative for the festival, are you able to give us a little more information about how you see the aims and outcomes of the session fitting for the Web Literacy space in particular? Thank you.
Hi @ArtsAward - CREATION TOOL: Wisdom-of-Crowd approaches serve as a tool for creating human/machine aggregations of information processing and problem solving capacity. Overarching frameworks, such as prediction markets, and underlying methods, such as consensus algorithms, provide the magical means to empower individuals on the Web to provide the impact of experts in addressing societal challenges. This session provides a first-hand account of how this phenomenon arises, when it makes sense to use it, and how to realize it. Best, Pietro
Hi Pietro, thank you for your submission. While really interesting we feel the session doesn't meet the goals of the Web Literacy space at the Festival this year. However, it might be a great fit for the Decentralization (cc @dvigneshwer). Cheers.
Thank you for taking the time to submit a session to MozFest. Due to the high level of submissions, we’re unable to accept all proposals and unfortunately, your session was not part of the final group.
Thank you for taking the time to submit and we will follow up on email very soon.
Hi @pmichelu , my name is Kasia and I work on Mozilla’s Internet Health Report. At Mozfest we will be present with an “Internet Research Hub” #618 (last comment) - an easy-going, cozy space for discussions and networking both with us about Internet Health and among researchers themselves.
We also invite anyone who does work in an Internet research field to sign up and present their work at a couple of open display tables we will have in the hub. We will promote these sessions throughout the festival. You can do it spontaneously with pen and paper on site or if you would like to save a spot beforehand, drop me an email at kasia@mozillafoundation.org with a short description of the session.
In any case, I would like to invite you to pass by the hub and say hi. We will start with an informal "Research and coffee grinder” get-together at the beginning of the festival where people can get to know each other. Space and exact schedule for the Hub are still being decided and I will update you once we know the details. Hope to see you there!

What will happen in your session?
We will run an interactive challenge to demonstrate the wisdom of the crowd (WoC) effect. It will consist of two parts: 1) a guessing game to collectively determine the weight of a physical object, and 2) an online challenge on the Stall Catchers citizen science game, where anyone can analyze movies of a live mouse brain. In the first case, we will determine the average of all answers – one of the simplest ways to determine the “crowd answer”. In the second case, we will play Stall Catchers and collectively classify a set of movies. We will demonstrate how Web-enabled WoC can help determine “crowd answers” in real Alzheimer’s disease research, and make sure they are as accurate as experts’.
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
The main aim of the session is to raise awareness of the wisdom of the crowd (WoC) and it’s fundamental role in solving real world problems today. We aim to reach a wide audience, with the youngest festival participants in mind in particular. The interactive format of the session aims to present the different methods of determining “crowd answers” in a simple and accessible way. Participants will understand both the basics of the methods, as well as their value in solving real world problems, such as accelerating Alzheimer’s research. Understanding the crucial role of Web-enabled technology in empowering the crowd, as is core to citizen science & crowdsourcing, will also be a main outcome.
If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
