[ Session Name ] Data back to the people: how would you like to receive it? [ Primary Space ] Open Innovation [ Secondary Space ] Digital Inclusion

[ Submitter's Name ] Egle Marija Ramanauskaite [ Submitter's Affiliated Organisation ] Human Computation Institute [ Submitter's Github ] seplute

[ Additional facilitators ] Pietro Michelucci,Claire Baert

What will happen in your session?

First, we will briefly introduce the Stall Catchers citizen science game, which recruits participants worldwide to analyze Alzheimer’s research data. We will explain how “catchers” help answer research questions via the game. We will then open the following question: “YOU are helping us generate data. How should we make these data accessible to YOU?” We will demonstrate some examples and visualizations, and ask participants to brainstorm and suggest their own. Topics to cover also include: the rights, concerns, and privacy issues that participants have related to opening data, what would the participants use the data for, how much research context they would like to receive, do any creative (not just research) opportunities arise with opening data, such as serendipitous discovery.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

As a citizen science project, enabled by the people and for the people, we are passionate about making volunteer-generated data available to volunteers. The main goal of the session is to gather feedback from the community about what kinds of open data they would like available via Stall Catchers, and in what format. By hearing directly from participants, we can make sure we maximize the impact and learning opportunities created by opening data. Moreover, participants may suggest new interface elements in Stall Catchers that would help provide the research context, open data and educational materials in the most accessible way.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

Projector and office supplies.

60 mins

hi @auremoser & @KirstieJane - would it be possible to add another facilitator to this session ?

[ Facilitator 4 Name ] Claire Baert [ Facilitator 4 Github ] @ClaireCSG [ Facilitator 4 Twitter ] @Claire_csg

KirstieJane commented 6 years ago

Hi @seplute - yes - I've added @ClaireCSG now.

We might not be able to give all four facilitators free tickets - we're assigned up to 3 per session. If we aren't able to get a free ticket for @claireCSG we'll send along a link so she can buy one for a discounted rate.

Please could you also ping me an email with her email address so I can add her to the facilitator mailing list. Thank you!

Hi @seplute , my name is Kasia and I work on Mozilla’s Internet Health Report. At Mozfest we will be present with an “Internet Research Hub” #618 (last comment) - an easy-going, cozy space for discussions and networking both with us about Internet Health and among researchers themselves.

We also invite anyone who does work in an Internet research field to sign up and present their work at a couple of open display tables we will have in the hub. If you would like to present something in the Hub in addition to your official session, let me know! We will promote these sessions throughout the festival. You can sign up spontaneously with pen and paper on site or if you would like to save a spot beforehand, drop me an email at kasia@mozillafoundation.org with a short description of the session.

In any case, I would like to invite you to pass by the hub and say hi. We will start with an informal "Research and coffee grinder” get-together at the beginning of the festival where people can get to know each other. Space and exact schedule for the Hub are still being decided and I will update you once we know the details. Hope to see you there!

Updated! So Pietro isn't able to attend, right? I'll have @marcwalsh and the MozFest team take him off the mailing lists.

Can you make sure to update your entry in the guidebook @seplute?

seplute commented 6 years ago

I will update the guidebook.

Pietro will not attend, although I'm sure it's not a big deal if he keeps receiving the emails ;p thanks for taking care of all of this tho! :D
