Hi @Tessasproule Thanks for your proposal. Could you provide a few more details as follows:
Whether you are able to attend Mozfest without a stipend, or if this is vital for your participation. A bit more detail about the practical activity that would take place Whether your session is targeted as a particular age range, eg is it youth friendly?
Thank you.
@mozfest-bot please remove the multiple spaces label, added in error
Hi @ArtsAward, we're exploring travel funds here and are optimistic we can secure that (therefore, put us down as able to attend without a stipend).
The session would be very youth-friendly. I'd like to demonstrate some of the ways we've turned our "Credibility Meter" (a tool born out of the MisinfoCon at MIT in Feb. 2017) into a gamified learning tool for kids of all ages. I'd also like to demonstrate how we're trying to create ways for people of all ages to have more insight into how algorithms and machine learning systems work -- that would likely be done via a real-time demonstration of our VubbleBot (which I describe in theoretical terms here at a presentation at the Nieman Foundation, but will have launched as a usable tool by Mozfest).
Subscribing.
@ArtsAward Do you have a sense if you'll be accepting this one?
@TessaSproule - thank you for submitting. Unfortunately we will not be able to accept your session in our space. We received quite a few submissions related to this theme and as such, were not able to accept them all. Thank you for your understanding.
@phillipadsmith - since a stipend is not required, would you consider it for Open Innovation? I feel like it could be adjusted a little bit to focus more on the algorithmic aspects? That could make it a great fit for your space.
@flukeout I invited Tessa to submit, so -- yes -- for the moment I'll move this over to our pool of candidates. :)
Hi @phillipadsmith - can you take another look at this session before we make our final decision for Open Innovation?
@KirstieJane I would propose to accept it and ask Tessa to explore if her company can cover the travel.
@TessaSproule We're accepting your session into the Open Innovation space. That includes registration to MozFest, but not a travel stipend. Let us know if that impacts your ability to attend.
We're in and good with attending without a stipend :)

What will happen in your session?
Kids are ahead of educators in terms of the understanding and use of technology, but they are ill-prepared in in terms of media literacy for the un-curated, “all content is equal” digital media landscape. 8 out of 10 students can’t identify ‘fake news’ and even more are unable to differentiate sponsored from non-sponsored content. I want to talk about solutions that provide simple ways for learners to evaluate content along standardized metrics developed by professional journalists and data scientists.
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
You know 'fake news' is a problem, now we need to find real solutions to fix it. My goal in the session is to inspire people to see we all have agency in this -- that we need to reclaim the web as an open and positive solution to the challenges of filter bubbles, fake news and apathy.
If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
Have HDMI plug. Will travel :)
