What will happen in your session?

This session will be an exploratory space to discover how the Open Web could advance the work of human rights practitioners. Also, we expect to discuss what emergent technologies could impact the future of human rights and what can we do do to include openness before they become largely adopted. Possible topics: -What does the Open Web do for human rights practitioners? How can we break any existing silos? -Can decentralization be framed as a rights-enhancing technology? Who is working on that? -Can personal clouds enhance human rights practice? How do get there? -What are developments in the IoT that could be open to benefit human rights activist? Sensors? Bio-sensors? -Is anyone working on the future of open tech security? Homomorphic encryption? Multi-party computation?

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

Learn and discuss how Open innovation (as in Open Web and Open Tech) could advance human rights. Discover and document emerging technologies that could impact human rights practice. Directly inform human rights communities of practice, and to solicit feedback that can guide current and future work at the Center for Human Rights Science and the Open Technology Institute.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

A projector and office supplies (paper, pens, post-it notes) would be awesome!
