What will happen in your session?

Demonstrations of community development and neighborhood exploration tools created in open source software such as Ren’Py. Applications that explore neighborhoods and tell history and stories from communities in unique, engaging interactive ways. Hands-on experiential learning with the apps designed during summer of 2017 at Regent Park Focus Youth Media Arts Centre (Toronto, Canada), examples of which is an animated neighbourhood map app and digital audio-storytelling project documenting the community's past, present, and future that can be easily navigated by the mobile user.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

To get young people thinking creatively about exploring their communities and neighboring communities in their own city. Encouraging people to seek and explore stories through the use of open source tools and new technologies. Presenting interactive and educational ways for tourists, immigrants, and residents to learn more about what’s locally accessible and see through an informed youth lens. Session outcomes are to further support open innovation, digital inclusion, and web literacy efforts, especially for disenfranchised and marginalized populations from underserved and/or stigmatized neighbourhood spaces.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

Touch screen laptops/monitors are preferred, but we can make do with our own regular laptops for presentation and hands-on use of the projects if needed. Thanks!

I'm seeking clarity on your stipend request. Your proposal has made it through to the next phase of consideration by the Digital Inclusion wrangler team. Unfortunately though, we've got way more seeking stipends than we have access to. If we were unable to give you access to a stipend, might you have other means available to you to make it to Mozfest? If you would like we can also have this conversation via email.

While we like the interactive nature of this, we're removing the Digital Inclusion milestone as we have several similar sessions we're considering. We would encourage the Youth Zone to take a look.
