What will happen in your session?

We are going to explore the concept of consent in the technology we build. All our data societies rely on the idea of consent basically because it is the bedrock to collect, store and process personal data. However, consent in the digital space seems to be an authomatic process with no space for negotiation and agency. There is an unbalance of power between the corporations that offer "free services" on the Internet and the people that use them. If as a community we fight for open technologies and digital rights, it's time to rethink on how we use consent. How do we build technology that considers people's needs for privacy and dignity?

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

If we think about consent in a fluid way between two parts, we should be able to change and negotiate it in each part of the way. We have to fight againt the idea of consent as obedience. Let's think together on how an era of consent would look like in the actual technologies we are building. The goal for the session is to have a set of best practices when building consent into the digital space and the tools we create. The idea is to have a draft for a set of practices that people can use in their own work.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

Office supplies like paper and pens and post-it notes will be needed.

The Privacy and Security team have decided to not take this proposal @gabelula. I'm now unlocking this milestone so others are free to consider it.
