What will happen in your session?
Public deliberation now takes place both online and offline. We will discuss current topics surrounding online deliberation and consensus building. Inspired by the ORID facilitation framework and the vTaiwan deliberation process we will reimagine what the future of democracy could look like. The discussion will be structured around the different stages of the deliberative process: 1 - What are the objective facts surround an issue? 2 - How do people feel about the issues being discussed? 3 - How do we interpret the various possibilities? What are the issues/challenges? 4 - What can we all agree on and move forward with?
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
The goal is to promote civic involvement and grow the understanding of best practices and common pitfalls surrounding collaborative deliberation and public decision making. We would like to highlight the use of online tools that can make discussions more inclusive, while also highlighting how they may exclude others. We’d like to find collective solutions to issues such as:
