What will happen in your session?

Based on the Educational Video Center's model of project-based learning for social action, participants in this session will engage in a series of hands-on activities that foster critical thinking, media literacy, and storytelling skills. This session draws from our New Media Arts Workshop, where students learn to make an interactive website and short video about a social issue of importance to them. Participants will work in small groups and create a line of inquiry, develop an interview protocol, conduct interviews with conference goers, and debrief on how the practices foster media literacy and critical thinking.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

Participants will walk away with teaching strategies designed for digital project-based learning for social action. Specifically, participants will learn approaches that encourage learners to:

Be engaged and critical media consumers -Foster student curiosity and inquiry about social issues in their community -Frame questions that encourage critical thinking about social issues from an historical perspective -Encourage students to be active listeners, researchers, and change agents.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

It would be great to have access to the Internet and flip chart paper but not a deal breaker.

@ArtsAward - I did look at but removed our label 6 days ago, if it did not have a stipend requirement, we could look at it again maybe but we are really supper full now
