What will happen in your session?

Attendees (and groups of attendees) on two opposite sides of MozFest will be able to connect, play and learn with each other with using next generation LOwLAtency technology, currently in limited use for distance musical and performative collaboration at several sites around the globe and being piloted in Gig City classrooms in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Participants will have a chance to play music, solve puzzles and interact through an immersive real-time portal across the Festival; we’ll also challenge them to ideate around new applications (particularly for education) and share how technology like this is making a difference for students, and to distributed digital equity, in smart cities like ours.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

We want to inspire, and we want to learn. Participants will have fun interacting in an overlapped physical-digital world while taking ownership of technology often relegated to theory or graduate computer science seminars; they’ll also share their ideas for what’s next! Our goal is always to put bleeding edge tools like LOLA in the hands of everyone and anyone for whom it could have an impact - or who might have an idea for its next application. So often educational technology is a closed system, something that’s been dumbed down and made “safe” for kids; we want to flip the script and ensure our students are using (and challenging) the same tech as other innovators.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

We will need to bring two of our mobile LOLA nodes from Chattanooga; displays (like a projector or large monitor) would be helpful. We'd also need LAN access at gigabit speeds.

Time needed

Thank you for taking the time to submit a session to MozFest. Due to the high level of submissions, we’re unable to accept all proposals and unfortunately, your session was not part of the final group.

Thank you for taking the time to submit and we will follow up on email very soon.
