What will happen in your session?

We will have an open discussion about the interconnect program deployed in Kansas City with our partners at CERN. How the citizen science project, LHC@Home, and QuarkNet Masterclass education excites learners to go beyond the classroom. We would like to illicit feedback on how to scale it to other localities anywhere in the world. If there is more time, we will be able to discuss the next phase of our funded project that extends collaboration between two cities in the US that have gigabit networks in the community. This talk will include followup of work done over the past year since our last talk at MozFest with emphasis on what worked and didn't from our discussion in 2016.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

To teach, learn, and find collaborators to extend the current work with CERN in citizen science and QuarkNet with physics education. With new collaborators, we would like to give our work to them to use, modify, and create a network of teacher and learners that can continue the work of a program that will extend CERN's LHC@Home and physics education.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

A projector or computer screen would be perfect as well as internet access. We will have computers and tablets. Post-it notes and pens would also be helpful for collaboration.
