What will happen in your session?

As a new designer in open source, I have stumbled around trying to figure out how to work on projects with developers and other team members. Being new to the scene things can be a little scary, especially in spaces that seem very technical. With any team, diversity matter. Producing documentation, recording process, and sharing resources are important in keeping up relations in open source spaces so we can better innovate together.

Here we will have an open discussion on file management, team communication, design hand-offs, and more. We'll share real team challenges, successes, and solutions. We will come away with a shared doc of our tips, tricks, and resources for working as teams in the open.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

I want people to walk away with clear suggestions on how their teams can better communicate on their projects moving forward and have a list of resources and tools that may aid them. By the end of our time together we should create a shared document with our compiled tips and tricks for team communication and collaboration that has worked in different situations.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

We may need stickies and pens that way we can see what ideas are most popular so we can prioritize discussion.

Attendees should bring their computers to take notes for our shared document. We can also share computers or have designated note takers.

@VictoriaODell is a local open source hero and the newly minted brigade captain for Open Austin! She'd be an amazing session leader at MozFest and has some really cool experience with practical civic tech projects like Austin Budget Party, which won the Mozilla Internet Health prize at ATX Hack for Change! That means she doesn't actually need a stipend (so I removed the label) CC @auremoser @phillipadsmith @bacharakis
