Interesting group of sessions
tagging myself as this one's interesting
Hi @EPIKhub and @bunnybooboo! I don't think Open Innovation are able to accept this session as we don't have enough space for all the great proposals! Let me know if you want to take it to another space
Discussed with @grigoryk - will not be accepting the session, but he's agreed to help us out with the "Thimble Zone" (cc @jonathanprozzi)
Thank you for taking the time to submit a session to MozFest. Due to the high level of submissions, we’re unable to accept all proposals and unfortunately, your session was not part of the final group.
Thank you for taking the time to submit and we will follow up on email very soon.

[ Session Name ] Visualizing the world around us through open data: Part 1 [ Primary Space ] Open Innovation [ Secondary Space ] Web Literacy
[ Submitter's Name ] Grisha Kruglov [ Submitter's Affiliated Organisation ] Mozilla [ Submitter's Github ] @grigoryk
What will happen in your session?
Presentation in three parts, with a technical follow-up session.
Part one is an overview of the subject of open data and why it is an important part of a developing, healthy society.
Part two is an overview of open geospatial data, with examples and use cases of how data sets are used around the world to affect positive change and gain insight. Both historical and current examples.
Part three is an overview of various tools available for gathering, analyzing and visualizing data sets. What's involved, what do you need to get started, how to publish results online, etc.
Part three plays as a segway into the "deep dive" session, where an example will be explored in detail in a hands-on "hacking session" with participants.
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
The goal is to get people excited about exploring and visualizing various open geographical data sets and publishing their findings back to the web. Desired outcome is that people leave this session with a sense that there is a lot of impactful and socially important work that needs to be done, with a lot of it being tractable by anyone with a laptop, an internet connection and some patience.
If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
