[ Session Name ] Youth led internet health fire side chat [ Primary Space ] Youth Zone

[ Submitter's Name ] Dorine Flies

[ Additional facilitators ] Shwetal Shah

What will happen in your session?

Within the Youth Zone we have 27 sessions being led by young people aged 8+ with a total of 33 sessions festival wide. As part of their acceptence into the youth zone we are requesting they take part in the fire side chat on the Youth Internet of health project.

Each participant will be asked to share with us what one of the 5 themes means to them based on:

Privacy & Security
Openness
Decentralization
Digital Inclusion
Web Literacy

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/internet-health

As a pre cursar to this they will have been asked to post their blog on Medium.com to start off their reflection on the above themes; again writing a blog is part and parcel of being accepted into the Youth Zone as this year MozFest is so "Themed". For a youth audience we felt it was best to help them reflect on how their session fits within, intersects and/or address's one or more of the 5 main themes set out in the internet of health report, rather than us tell them.

To achive this we are drawing from a number of sessions who have submitted to MozFest and have been accepted within the Youth Zone to help us set the stage and deliver training on the Friday together with set homework on their "Themed" choice to go research the topic in the themed space. This to fully support our young people being confident in standing up for 5-7 minutes to let us know what the report means to them.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

This will be an eddited filmed event, we want our youth to get a taste of what it feels like to be filmed while talking. This while giving them the reasurance that it's ok to "Mess up talking on stage". Public speaking is a daunting task to many and only through the doing can we start to be more confortable with the experience itself. The objectives of this session are 2 fold: (A) Be a gaint sand box for our youth experience public speaking and (B) Record the views of our youth on what Mozilla has set out in their Internet of health report, youth being the ones who are going to have to pick up the batton to carry on fighting for a free internet for all.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
