[ Submitter's Name ] Sahar Habib Ghazi [ Submitter's Affiliated Organisation ] Global Voices

[ Additional facilitators ] Elizabeth Rivera,Laura Vidal,Joey Ayoub

What will happen in your session?

What happens when you open a door to a room full of strangers from around the world? What questions do you ask? Do you become aware of your biases as you interact?? Do your views change as you listen to their stories? In this session, we will present three cases of personal transformations from the Global Voices community and explain how to put the user at the centre of Web Literacy spaces.

We will explain how we built a community of learners and storytellers creating a space that fosters Web Literacy and Open Innovation, where we are learning the skills that help us read, write and participate on the web securely in a way that enriches the web and us.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

Our virtual newsroom is part newsroom, part classroom. 90% of our newsroom editors did not practice journalism on the web when they first came into contact with Global Voices. In this session you will meet three of them: Elizabeth Rivera from Mexico/Chile, Laura Vidal from Venezuela/France and Joey Ayoub from Lebanon.

In the last 10 minutes of our session we will present a list of essentials for creating different models that foster digital literacy. We hope this session will empower participants to put users at the centre of any web literacy spaces they build or are a part of.
