[ Submitter's Name ] Daniel James [ Submitter's Affiliated Organisation ] 64 Studio Ltd. [ Submitter's Github ] @danielhjames

[ Additional facilitators ] Chris Obbard

What will happen in your session?

A hands-on workshop using the PiDeck image for Raspberry Pi (http://pideck.com/) and cheap turntables, in order to scratch, mix and show off. Chris and I are the developers of the PiDeck project. I previously ran the youth DJ workshops at the 'Bestival' festivals.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

Participants will learn how to build their own embedded turntable device, and how to extend or improve the open source software it runs. And have a go at DJ'ing.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

Big loudspeakers please.

Time needed

60 mins

@danielhjames A DJ youth workshops sounds awesome especially if Pi is involved!

danielhjames commented 7 years ago

Thanks Dorine, the idea is to combine the technical talk with a hands-on workshop so that there is something for everyone.

Hi Dorine, hi Andrew, is the Science Fair taking place on the Friday of Mozfest this year? If so, can we apply to take part in that please?

EPIKhub commented 6 years ago

@Saallen @marcwalsh Could we add this session to the Science fair?

danielhjames commented 6 years ago

Thanks Dorine :-) We have a fun demo that would fit the Science Fair really well. We'd be happy to demo in the youth zone at other times too.

Saallen commented 6 years ago

@danielhjames we can cater for you in the science fair but you will need headphones rather than speakers as you will be one of many on a floor- still work for you? 🎧

danielhjames commented 6 years ago

Hi Sarah, headphones would be fine for the Science Fair, thanks! I can bring a four-way headphone amp so that people can listen and play with their friends, it's more fun that way. You are quite right that we can get loud if left unchecked :-)

@danielhjames I am assuming you are bringing along your own hardware to use with Pi Deck (turntables)? We will have the workshop running in a room of Raspberry Pis, but we then also need to know any software you need installed (or if are bringing your own SD cards).

If you are bringing actual hardware to use with the Pis, can we check how many sets for room planning?

danielhjames commented 6 years ago

Hi Andrew, we will be bringing our own hardware and SD cards, there will be 2x turntables, 2x Raspberry Pi's, 1x mixer. I was hoping that loudspeakers could be provided by the college, but if not, please let me know.

Hi Sarah, is there any vehicle access for the Science Fair e.g a nearby car park, or must all equipment be brought through the front door of Ravensbourne?

Saallen commented 6 years ago

Hello

There is a loading bay at the back of ravensboure but you cannot park there.

So you can drop stuff off but need to park elsewhere. I dont recommend using o2 parking as its SUPER expensive Thanks Sarah
