[ Session Name ] What we love matters. [ Primary Space ] Digital Inclusion [ Secondary Space ] Youth Zone

[ Submitter's Name ] Sacha Judd

[ Additional facilitators ] TBC two London based digitally skilled fans

What will happen in your session?

Participants will be introduced to the world of internet fandoms, a digital sub culture where individuals learn and develop amazing skills by making things about their passions. They will be asked to consider how the subject content of these forums and sites contributes to the feelings involved with imposter syndrome - people with skills devaluing themselves because they don't feel their work is valid. The second part of the session, participants will be asked to create something about something they currently love or used to when they were a child - from a simple meme to a digital masterpiece. We'll celebrate the joy of making.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

To get people to reconsider the skills of those around them and to value the talents they have taught themselves in the process of making things that they are passionate about. A whole section of the web exists, yet is kept separate from the 'serious side of things' purely through thematic biases. Digital inclusion is about making the web somewhere to celebrate and shout about skills, to share ideas and to be welcomed, regardless of what you think is cool or not. An online gallery will be created for MozFest attendees to share what is important to them.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

Access to something to make on or with.
